Dear colleagues and friends,

The members of the Organising Committee are delighted to invite you to the second edition of the RFMF Thematic School, organised jointly with the SFBC and dedicated to metabolomics in human health. The event will take place from 5 to 9 October 2026 at the CNRS Centre in Aussois.

The choice of health as the central theme reflects a context in which metabolomics is playing an increasingly important role in understanding pathophysiological mechanisms, identifying biomarkers, stratifying patients and, more broadly, developing more personalised medicine. However, these opportunities also come with many challenges: the quality and standardisation of human samples, the robustness of analytical protocols, data annotation and interpretation, integration with clinical data, and consideration of the regulatory, ethical and methodological constraints specific to health studies.

This thematic school has been designed as a comprehensive programme covering the different stages of a metabolomics study applied to human health: from experimental design and human sample collection to data analysis, biological interpretation and the specific constraints of the clinical field. The aim is to introduce each step progressively, while leaving ample room for exchanges, discussions and feedback from experience.

Aimed at researchers, engineers, clinicians and PhD students, this school seeks to provide solid foundations while also encouraging collective reflection on the current challenges of metabolomics in health. It will be an opportunity to identify the scientific, technical and organisational bottlenecks that still hinder the deployment of these approaches, and to discuss together how they might be overcome.

This week will offer a valuable scientific retreat, combining theoretical sessions, practical workshops and opportunities for discussion with experts in the field. Our ambition is to provide a dynamic and friendly environment where everyone can deepen their knowledge, compare practices, raise questions and strengthen links between the RFMF and SFBC communities.

Beyond the scientific exchanges, this thematic school will also be a time for sharing and conviviality, true to the spirit that drives our networks. We hope it will inspire you, enrich your research and foster the emergence of new collaborations around metabolomics in health.
